Black Storks in Normandy

A couple of days ago we were travelling back from Condé-sur-Noireau when one of these flew up from the side of the road near the river.  Our first thought was a heron but in fact no, it was a black stork (Ciconia nigra).

The black stork page on Wikipedia indicates that Normandy is further north than their summer range but I have seen them on several occasions and  a keen bird watching friend assures me that they are now also breeding here.  The closest location they are supposed to breed is Portugal.  I shall therefore have to keep my eyes open to see if I can spot more of these magnificent birds locally.

Have you ever seen a Black Stork in the wild?
