New Year, New Post, Newsletter!
Happy New Year / Bonne Année / Gelukkig nieuwjaar / Frohes neues Jahr!
... and welcome to 2019.
With a New Year comes a new bog post and a new newsletter. It's only taken me a year to sort out Mailchimp in order to send out a newsletter and the first one went out a few hours ago. My aim is to send out a maximum of 4 newsletters a year (so no risk of inundating your inbox) and subscribers will get access to a VIP area on the website with subscriber only special offers etc. So do subscribe if you don't want to miss out. Taxe de Séjour
Starting this year, our local tourist office is charging adult visitors to the area a holiday tax called Taxe de Séjour. Children under 18 are exempt and adults need to pay 60c per adult per night ... so for 2 adults and 2 children staying a week you will need to pay the small extra amount of €8.40. This is payable in cash on arrival and we will pass it on to the tourist office who will use the money will be used to enhance and promote tourism in Normandy.
The amount gites must charge their guests is based on their star classification being highest for 5 star gites or those without a classification. To keep the cost down for guests we decided to get the gite classified, which was undertaken just before Christmas. We were allocated a max of 3 stars: you need a few things we don't supply, including a separate toilet to get 4 stars but the assessor was more than happy to set us at 2 stars to keep the cost down for guests. 3 star gites in this region need to charge 1€ per adult per night so we have saved guests 40c per adult per night!
Another advantage of having the assessment was that the gite needed to be prepared as if guests were about to arrive which meant for once I had the time to take some new photos. Here we go ...
I have wanted to update the living room now we have 2 new sofas for a while, as well as trying to show the open plan/split level of the living room and kitchen. Did I succeed?
I also finally got a couple of decent photos of the bathroom and some nicer ones of the mezzanine and play area. I hope you like them.
